Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner at the Fitzgeralds' home. Shrove Tuesday is an old holiday celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday (think Mardi Gras). The season of Lent in the Christian Calendar is reflection, self-examination, and repentance. Therefore Lent is also a season of fasting and prayer. The church tradition is to empty the cupboards of excess food before Lent begins, and to use that food for a celebration and feast. Throughout history, in many traditions this was done by making pancakes from the excess flour and lard. If you want to get in on this tradition and have a fun night, send us an email so that we know how many people are coming (firstname.lastname@example.org). Bring a breakfast type side dish (grits, breakfast casserole, hash-browns, etc...) to share. The Fitzgeralds will provide pancakes, toppings, coffee, and drinks. Hope to see you there at 6.30 p.m.!
