Church of the Outer Banks

Elders

Church of the Outer Banks is an elder led church. We view the role of elder and the role of pastor as one and the same. Therefore, all elders are pastors and all pastors are Elders. The New Testament books of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 describe the qualifications for Elders/Pastors.

Winfield Bevins
Lead Pastor

I serve as lead pastor of Church of the Outer Banks, which my wife Kay and I helped launch in 2005. As the lead pastor, I oversee preaching, teaching, vision casting, and leadership development. I am currently pursuing a doctorate from Southeastern in Wake Forest, NC. I have a passion for writing, painting, surfing, kayaking, and hanging out with my wife and two little girls Elizabeth and Anna Belle. On any given day of the week, you can find me having a cup of coffee at one of the local coffee shops.

Ron and Lynn Brooks
Administrative Elder/Sunday Morning Coordinator

We moved to the Outer Banks in the summer of 2000 due to a change in employment. We started a bookstore business and quickly settled in to the laid-back lifestyle here. We both came from very traditional church backgrounds and were looking for something that reflected how God was working in us at that time in our lives. In 2005, we saw a sign at a local coffee shop for a new church that was just starting in the YMCA, and since we were looking for a different kind of church experience, we checked it out. The rest is history. After about a year here, Ron became one of the elders at the church and Lynn became "Sunday morning mama" a.k.a. Sunday Morning Coordinator. Ron helps out with administrative decisions, heads up the gel groups and teaches one of them, as well as plays bass in the church band. Lynn oversees the Sunday morning team leaders and tries to make sure that Sunday mornings run as smoothly as possible. We love our church, we love our pastor and his family, and we love the people God as brought to Church of the Outer Banks. We are humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve in this awesome ministry.

Jesse Hines
Worship Leader

I grew up here on the Outer Banks, starting, and playing music at a young age. I became a Christian at the age of seventeen. Shortly after that, I moved to Wilmington and met my beautiful wife, Whitney. We moved to California where I pursued a career in professional surfing. Eventually I made my way back to the Outer Banks and began attending Church of the Outer Banks when we first started meeting at the YMCA. Then after several months, I began to lead the worship for the church. Now I am an elder, worship leader, and the rest is history. We are currently working on a CD project which will be coming out later this summer.

Bethany Doyle
Administrative Assistant

While attending Liberty University, I discovered my passion for church ministry and working with high school students. After graduation, I spent the next year taking a course on youth and church ministry - through a Missouri based program called Kanakuk Kamps. After moving to southern California, I started working for Mariners Church in Irvine and was on staff with the high school ministry for 4 1/2 years. Brant (Doyle) and I have recently married and now I am in the Outer Banks and still doing something I am passionate about. I am grateful to be a part of the Church OBX family!
